Creating a Place for Bike Repairs in Downtown Richmond

In Autumn 2014, Rich City Rides opened a bike shop pilot as a fiscally sponsored project of Urban Tilth, providing low-cost bike access to the East Bay community. The bike shop later operated as an independent California Cooperative Corporation from 2017 to 2023, before sunsetting that year. In 2023, Rich City Rides formed its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and in late 2025 relaunched the bike shop as a project under that nonprofit, operating through mid-2026.

Across over a decade of activity, we have provided over 3,600 free new and refurbished bikes to Richmond residents. When the bike shop closed following the sale of our building, residents and community members at large immediately called for its return. Your sponsorship helps us bring that legacy back to life inside our new downtown Richmond Micro-Mobility Hub, restoring free bike access at the scale our community has repeatedly told us it wants, while integrating it into a broader hub for green transportation and workforce development.
