A space for healing, culture, and community

The Black Wellness Hub is a community-centered vision; a welcoming space dedicated to mental, physical, and communal well-being and a home for Bay Area and Diasporic Black culture.

Rooted in Richmond, the hub will build on the spirit of connection already present in our rides, parks, and neighborhood programs. The space is being shaped to honor Black historic legacy, creativity, and collective care while creating more opportunities for people to gather, learn, move, and heal together.

Help build West County’s Black Wellness Hub

Your contribution will help create a welcoming, Black-led wellness hub at 1525 Ohio Avenue where Richmond residents can gather, heal, move, learn, and connect to culturally grounded community support. Donations through this campaign are made to Urban Tilth, Rich City Rides’ 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, and are restricted for the Black Wellness Hub project.

The vision

Plans for the Black Wellness Hub are evolving through community input. The vision includes:

  • Space and resources that support physical activity and holistic wellness
  • Workshops exploring Black history, African culture, and the African diaspora
  • Cultural activities including music, dance, language, visual art, and storytelling
  • Intergenerational gatherings centered on connection, belonging, and healing
  • Programs and partnerships shaped by Richmond residents and community leaders

Rooted in the Rich City Project

The hub is part of the larger Rich City Project, an effort to move community spaces out of the speculative market and into long-term shared community stewardship. These spaces are intended to advance health, culture, opportunity, and self-determination for Richmond residents most affected by displacement, historic redlining, criminalization, and disinvestment.

Help shape the hub

This vision grows stronger with community participation. Richmond residents, culture bearers, healers, artists, families, young people, and local partners are invited to share ideas about the spaces, resources, and activities the Black Wellness Hub should offer.

As the Black Wellness Hub moves through community engagement, design, and development, this page will be updated with new opportunities to participate and support the work.
