EXPANDING BIKE ACCESS IN RICHMOND

Empowering Movement

What Is Everybody Rides?

Rich City Rides envisions a Richmond where Black and Brown residents achieve improved life outcomes through owning and steering the transportation planning process in our neighborhoods — and where racial equity and mobility justice guide every movement.

Everybody Rides is one of the core programs under our Right to Movement initiative. Through this program, we provide free and low-cost opportunities for community members to access bicycles, learn bike maintenance, and build real mobility independence.

For many Richmond residents, the cost of purchasing a bike is out of reach. Our incentive program distributes free refurbished bicycles to community members who need them most.

How the Program Works

Our process is simple and community-centered:

  1. Complete the Program Intake Form
Share a little information about your transportation needs and how a bike would support your mobility.
  2. Join Us for Three Community Ride
Everyone Rides participants attend at least three Rich City Rides community ride. These rides help build skills, confidence, and connection.
Volunteering also counts. If you help out at an event, support one of our programs, or lend a hand in a way that fits your schedule, that contribution also fulfills the requirement.
  3. Take Home Your Bike — Forever
After attending your ride, you’ll receive your free refurbished bike and basic safety overview.

We also host seasonal bike and helmet giveaways for youth and families during the holiday season.

Riding with us isn’t just the main way to earn your bike; it’s also a meaningful way to connect with the Rich City community.

When you join our rides, you can meet the team, discover different areas of Richmond at a relaxed pace, and enjoy the vibrant energy of our activities. Whether it’s Self-Care Sunday, a Youth or Family Ride, or a special community event, each ride provides an opportunity to meet new people, boost your confidence on a bike, and be part of something uplifting and enjoyable.

Get involved with Rich City Rides by helping us make our community events, rides, and programs run smoothly and feel welcoming for everyone. You can assist with setting up and breaking down event spaces, organizing bikes and equipment, helping families or participants navigate stations during community days, supporting sign-ins and waivers, preparing water or snacks, and offering general on-the-ground support as our team activates rides, youth programs, workshops, and neighborhood events.

Whether you’re lending a hand at an event or helping our team keep things flowing, your involvement strengthens the work we already have going and helps create a positive experience for our community.

Share your creative talents—whether it’s photography, videography, graphic design, or social media support—and help us showcase our programs and rides. We’re always eager to connect with talented individuals who can help us promote our mission and upcoming events. Whether you’re an experienced professional or just beginning, your efforts can significantly impact our community.

Why We Do This — The Right to Movement

We believe mobility is a human right.

Everybody Rides aims to help residents of Richmond move safely, affordably, and confidently by increasing bicycle access, lowering transportation costs, and teaching essential navigation skills. Our efforts extend beyond just distributing bikes; we promote hands-on learning, foster community connections, and empower individuals. By removing mobility barriers, providing supportive riding and learning environments, and amplifying the voices of Black and Brown residents, we are cultivating a community where movement isn’t limited by income or resources. Everyone should have the freedom to reach their destinations, and Everybody Rides works to make that freedom a reality for more families in Richmond.
