At the helm of RICH CITY Rides, Najari’s efforts have contributed to community-led development work that has transformed vacant lots and closed storefronts into vibrant worker-cooperative businesses and activated park spaces with social activities that have connected people and place, with collective power.

Shots (he/him)

Park Equity Project Manager

Shots can often be seen strapped with multiple cameras, ready to shoot and capture any and every moment. Shots is a self-taught photographer and life-long creative, who pulls inspiration from our diverse community, his ancestors, and future descendants. Shots is a local product of the community, having spent his whole life in these influential and powerful spaces. If you’re not careful, he might catch you slipping, and turn you into a meme. Shots enjoys a good laugh, and dancing despite lacking rhythm at times to non-trap and/or non-Bay Area music. He’s often seen with his MoneyBear backpack and accused of posting thirst traps. In his defense, he claims it’s because we’re in a drought.

Professionally, Shots is more than your favorite photographer from the hood. He is also a rising early career scientist, having been identified as one of the top rising researchers in the country in the field of Environmental Science and Ecology. His accolades include being the 1st and only National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow from Richmond, California – the highest distinction one can earn in the nation as a Doctoral researcher. Shots is currently a PhD Candidate at UC Berkeley in Environmental Science, Policy, & Management, and has been working on large-scale regional, national, and global research with the U.S. Department of Energy at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab since 2012. Perhaps it’s safe to say that Shots is also your favorite scientist from the hood. His research endeavors seek to address ecological racism through the lens of water, soils, and climate. Additionally, Shots is passionate about mental health awareness, social and racial justice, and maybe cycling.

Joseph Brian Hester

Community Fellow

Born and raised in Richmond California, I’ve been around Richmond for most of my 20 years of life. I am the youngest of many children between my parents; but I never grew up without a truck load of love. For a while, I hovered around, looking for motivation to start something new. By coming to RICH CITY Rides, I think I found my new hobby, cycling and bike building!

I’m part RICH CITY Rides’ JEDI group and my duties range from inventory management to bike repair and ride marshaling.

Today riding my bike is the great passion of my life. I ride for joy. I ride for community. I ride for justice and equity! Everyone deserves that level of freedom and respect. Everyone deserves the Rich City Rides experience! “

As Fausto Coppi famously said, “Ride your bike, ride your bike, ride your bike!” If you don’t own a bike talk to us, we are here for you!

Alexander is also an accomplished Figurative Sculptor and College Art Educator. He has exhibited artwork at galleries and cultural institutions in New York City, the San Francisco Bay area and Bristol England.

Enrico Huerra

School Programs Manager

Rico has a strong passion to serve those that are in need of being served. Born in Berkeley and raised in Richmond, California, he has been involved in community work since the age of 16. After spending years working with our youth from schools in Contra Costa County and later serving our unhoused community in Alameda County, he then spent time in the state of Colorado working with unhoused teenagers. As a child, Enrico Guerra, known to most folks around the community as Rico, played youth sports and attended schools here in Richmond. He graduated from EL Cerrito High School as well as obtained Associate degrees from Contra Costa College. His work also includes graphic/apparel design through screenprinting and cooking alongside his wife. Now as a husband and father, working with Rich City Rides to bring the love of being outdoors to students through hiking, biking and other avenues is a divinely-timed opportunity. From growing up here in Richmond riding bikes with his father to “Babs” on 23rd st. to bringing those memories to other families is something he is looking forward to doing for years to come.
